The Capstone class has completed a survey regarding third spaces in Whitehorse that the students can access to utilize in their own life.
Key Findings Summary

Of all the responses, 90% of respondents are in an age range from 19 years or older indicating a need for third spaces in which young people feel comfortable being included with others. All respondents indicated they enjoy equal amounts of weekday activity options that fall into one of five categories; cafes, gymnasiums, libraries, outdoor areas, and cultural areas; respondents reported they use outdoor spaces (e.g. parks , hiking) and restaurants more than any other activity on the weekends.

The average cost of using third spaces in Whitehorse on weekdays is $10 while on the weekend is $16 to $30, therefore, affordable options are vital.

Respondents state they enjoy activities related to nature, arts, sports, food and socializing, however, a number of respondents stated they want to experience more cultural activities that are affordable. The majority of respondents noted they were unable to participate in activities because of factors such as cost, lack of time, transport issues or weather.

Most respondents found out about activities through word of mouth, social media and posters. Respondents wanted to experience most of the activities in person.

Respondents who provided popular third space recommendations were Bliss Brewtique and the Canada Games Centre.

Next Steps
Based on the collected information from the survey, each member of the group will choose 1-2 third spaces that meet the needs of the student cohort. The selection will ensure that there are a number of different leisure activities (outdoor, creative, social) within the budgetary range of the entire student cohort.

Third space reviews will be done to capture important information; price point, location, value to the community, and participant experience. Each review will also include photographs of the third space.
